International conference on the occasion of the
100th anniversary of the discovery of Pál-völgyi
Cave
June 21–24th, 2004 Budapest/Hungary
[Preliminary registration form – download rtf]
Its hundred
years of history and other, later discovered large hydrothermal caves of
Budapest give an opportunity to summerize and publish the knowledge gathered so
far about this special genesis and formations. Also, our aim is to learn about
the researches and theories related to foreign caves of similar origin.
Papers are accepted to the conference in two
subjects below:
1. Any subject concerning
Pál-völgy cave
2. Genesis, formations,
fillings of hydrothermal caves
The max. length of the papers should be 35 000
characters (+ illustration) which can be sent in one of the official languages
of the conference (Hungarian, English, German). The abstract of the papers
(max. A4) are to be posted until 31th March, 2004; the
complete papers should be turned in at registration (22th June).
Pál-völgy cave was discovered on the 23rd
of June, 1904. Due to the continouos excavation, today the cave is the second
longest cave in Hungary.
The program of the conference consists of the
registered papers described above and cave trips (show cave tours and trips
where overalls needed) in the most significant hydrothermal caves of Budapest:
Pál-völgy Cave, Szemlő-hegy Cave, József-hegy Cave, Ferenc-hegy Cave.
The ’Caveday’ (25–27th June,
organized at the same location Pál-völgy), closely related to the conference,
offers possibilities of further cave trips (in overalls) in hydrothermal caves
of Budapest and outskirts of Budapest (Mátyás-hegy Cave, Bátori Cave,
Sátorkő-puszta Cave, Devil Cave of Solymár).
Cave diving is also possible in the large sectioned
passages of the 3 km-long hydrothermal cave of Molnár János.
